About

I'm S. Rosmerta Hellequin, and I make the candles here at Rosmerta's Cauldron.

I was born with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and the symptoms have been getting steadily worse since I hit my twenties. I do not possess proper connective tissue, and as 95% of the body contains connective tissue, almost all of my systems are affected. My blood vessels, organs, muscles, skin, joints, and ligaments are easily dislocated and torn. I am in constant pain and need a wheelchair to move around.

This means that I could never produce enough candles to live on the money, and so I like to donate the proceeds to charity, or provide free candles that charities can sell on fundraising stalls.

I favour Assistance Dog charities for donations.

Why Assistance Dogs?

This is Freya.

Freya is a rescued Northern Inuit dog. I trained her to be my Assistance Dog. She has changed my life, saved my life, and even helped me to make candles by lifting wax out of the cupboard!
She was originally going to become a Recognised Assistance Dog through training with a charity, but, sadly, they were very oversubscribed and would not have gotten through their waiting list until Freya was too old to begin a working life.
To obtain any hope of leaving the house independently, I had to apply to another charity to receive a dog that would be placed with me after training. Freya remains a fabulous in-home assistant, and it is because of my experience with her that I understand the importance of Assistance Dogs and wish to direct my funds to them.
